Every trim on both cars seats 5, and every trim tows the same 1,500 pounds, properly equipped. Bumper-to-bumper coverage runs 3 years or 36,000 miles on all six, and the three EV trims add 8 years or 100,000 miles on the battery and electric components.

Trim-by-Trim: What Each One Adds

Equinox LT — $29,000

The entry point, and a well-equipped one. Heated front seats and a heated steering wheel are standard, which in a market that runs below freezing from December through February is equipment you use daily rather than a luxury. The 11.3-inch infotainment touchscreen with Google built-in is standard, HD Surround Vision is available, and the 1.5L Turbo and 8-speed automatic are identical to what the two trims above it use. All-wheel drive takes it to $31,000.

Equinox RS — $33,900

The appearance trim, and it commits: black mirrors, black moldings, black emblems and black badging, a flat-bottom steering wheel, 19-inch wheels as standard with 20-inch machined wheels available, and an available two-tone black roof. Seating moves to Artemis Gray or black leatherette. If you want the Equinox to look like the sharpest thing in the school pickup line on Emmaus Avenue, this is the one that does it.

Equinox ACTIV — $33,900

Same money as the RS, different hardware. ACTIV fits all-terrain tires and a uniquely tuned suspension, and dresses the cabin in Evotex and sueded microfiber with an available two-tone white roof. The all-terrain tires and the suspension tune are the reason to choose it: the gravel lanes and feed-and-mulch runs of Lehigh Valley farm country out toward Bally and Kutztown, a climb over Blue Mountain in wet weather, and the freeze-thaw pothole season that runs February through April all read differently on a tire with a real sidewall.

Equinox EV LT 1 — $34,995

The entry to the electric side, and the trim with the longest range in the family: 319 miles EPA-estimated with front-wheel drive. It carries the 17.7-inch center touchscreen, Google built-in, and over 20 standard safety and driver assistance features with Adaptive Cruise Control among them as standard rather than optional. Roof side rails are not offered on this trim, which matters if a roof box is part of the plan.

Equinox EV LT 2 — $41,795

Everything on the LT 1 plus the comfort and convenience content: heated steering wheel, heated front seats, heated mirrors, HD Surround Vision and wireless phone charging. Roof side rails become standard here. A front center LED light bar is standard on this trim and on the RS.

Equinox EV RS — $44,095

Everything on the LT 2 plus unique front and rear fascias, black exterior accents, a flat-bottom steering wheel and 21-inch black wheels. It is $2,300 above the LT 2, which is the smallest step on either ladder.

Equinox RS vs Equinox ACTIV

Identical price, identical powertrain, different intent. RS buys appearance: blacked-out exterior details, the flat-bottom wheel, 19-inch wheels standard and 20-inch machined available. ACTIV buys hardware: all-terrain tires, its own suspension tune and the Evotex and sueded microfiber cabin. Choose by where the car spends its weekends. If that is Route 22, MacArthur Road and a parking garage in Bethlehem, take the RS. If it is a gravel drive toward Slatington or Schuylkill Haven, take the ACTIV.

Equinox LT vs Equinox EV LT 1

The $5,995 that separates them buys a different vehicle, not a better version of the same one. The EV LT 1 is longer, rides on a 116.3-inch wheelbase against 107.5, carries the bigger screen and makes Adaptive Cruise Control standard. The gas LT holds more: 63.5 cubic feet with the seats down against the EV's 57.2. The deciding question is whether you can charge where you park.

Equinox EV LT 2 vs Equinox EV RS

$2,300 apart, and the LT 2 already has the equipment you touch: heated seats and wheel, surround vision, wireless charging. The RS adds the fascias, the black accents and the 21-inch wheels. It is a styling decision at that point, and a modest one in money.

Value Verdict

On the gas side, the all-wheel-drive LT at $31,000 is the most car for the money in the family. It has the heated seats and wheel, the 11.3-inch screen, Chevy Safety Assist and all-weather traction, and the 1.5L Turbo it uses is the same engine the $35,900 trims use. Nothing above it goes faster.

On the electric side, the LT 1 at $34,995 carries the longest range of any Equinox and makes Adaptive Cruise Control standard. Step to the LT 2 if heated seats and a heated wheel matter to you through a Pennsylvania winter, which for most drivers here they do.

Across both, the honest split is this: buy the gas LT AWD if you park on the street or in a shared lot, and the EV LT 1 or LT 2 if you have a 240-volt outlet where the car sleeps.
